UOI In UOI this week we have been digging deeper into our UOI. We started off by reading scenarios about different children. Reading their stories, we could tell that not all their rights were being upheld. With a partner, we worked together to infer which rights were being denied. We thought about which organisations were responsible for upholding these rights and then we came up with some suggestions as to how they could uphold these. We also spent some time looking at some photos of children from around the world and could see straight away that they too were denied different rights. We carried out a chalk talk activity to share our ideas about what we could see, what the photos made us think about, we also made some connections between these photos and previous knowledge and we came up with some interesting questions. In math this week, we have continued to work on place value, and addition and subtraction strategies. Earlier this morning we had a go at a place value challenge. We were given 6 numbers that were written in 5 different scripts. One script was English and another was Chinese. We were able to figure out the Chinese numbers pretty quickly. We then had to use our thinking skills to try and work out what the other numbers were. Some were easy and some were a bit tricky but we all managed to succeed. Once we began to make connections between the digits in a script, we were able to figure out the rest.

This week in G3.1 we have been adding and subtracting 2 and 3 digit numbers. We then applied our knowledge to using money. We've had a lot of fun playing math games such as Capture 5 and Collect $2.00. Our first unit of the year is Who We Are and we are looking into the idea that 'with rights come responsibilities.'
We were looking at 52 children rights, choose one and telling each other what it meant to them. We started off by separating needs from wants. We then matched those needs to articles from the UN Convention of Child Rights. We chose a right from the convention that we then discussed in a group. Everybody in the group had to comment on each other's choice. We've looked at the short videos about children's rights getting denied. We then had to figure out which right was not being upheld and who's responsibility it was to uphold that right. - Written by Teddy, Aubrey, Nayoung and Miss Amin Hello! Welcome to our class blog. Each week the blog will be updated by either the students, the teacher or a mixture of both.
We have spent the last couple of weeks getting to know each other and setting up routines for a successful year. We've learnt that some of us love LEGO, some of us love crafting, there are a few who love unicorns and all things magical but the one thing we all have in common is our love of learning. Keep coming back to see what we get up to this year. |
