This week we've been learning all about shapes. We played some games which taught us the properties of 2D shapes. We practised visualising shapes in our minds, moving and overlapping them and then drawing what we could see. It was interesting because we visualised the same shapes but because we moved them around in different ways we all ended up with different types of irregular hexagons and triangles. We sorted shapes into different categories such as irregular and regular, congruent and similar, polygons and non-polygons. We learnt the difference between a square and a rhombus and we also learned that a diamond is NOT a 2D shape. We made different types of shapes on the geoboards and Miss Amin gave us these 5 challenges: We chose which challenges we wanted to do. Can you guess from our photos which ones we chose? we worked as a team to find a way where mis amin wants to go and we had to do it in a piece of paper.
the paper was called coordinates. She ask as 8 question on where to go. One of the questions is lunch time number 3a) - Rajananta and Archie Blue Patterson cityLana, Adra, Aditya, Hakim we made our city using opinions and we named our city Blue Paterson !! we were the goverment in our city . We used the green screen we used the listening skills and speaking skills and writing skills and organization . We also had a conflict nut it we solved the conflict soon! Raffles cityMarietta, Satoshi, Irfan & Kaya We made a city map called Raffles city. In the design room on the white board we did our first version of our city map. Then we transformned the map to a grid. We also used social, communication, thinking, research and self-management skills. -Kaya -Marietta Orchard FieldsRajananta, Joe, Advay, Chihiro, Kaede We made a city called Orchard Fields! First we planned our city. Then we made a map of our city. After that we made a advert of our city with green screen. We used our communication skills. Alpha cityCamille, Anthony, Shu kun, Camille, Valencia We did not do well in the start because we did not communicate with each other that much, but then we got back on track and did it better. We work very hard on alpha city. It looked nice in the end. In fact Shu Kun help us with some good ideas. also Valencia ask and told Shu Kun in chinese because Shu Kun speaks in chinese and got the answer then told us it in english. well at least we got it done and did our best. !!!thank you for reading!!! - Archie We have been collecting data in maths for questions. that we came up with. We learned to organise and collect data. We learned how to read and make pictograms. we used sheets on chrome books to create bar charts. We learned how to ask effective and specific questions. By Advay This week we helped Ms Amin to find the MRT route to Changi airport so she could pick up her friends. Then we decide which is the most quickest route. We used maps and iPads to find it. We had tons of ways!!
On maths we collected the data of which places to you liked to eat. Then we sorted them in to groups. I liked doing this because I learned that we can count, measure and ask people to collect information. How many ways can you organise ? On Literacy we learned about story setting. We played the game where half of us left the room and the other half has to look at a photo. Then when everyone came in, they had to describe the picture they have seen and we had to draw what they described. Then Ms Amin write the description of another picture but she forgot the adjectives!!! So we had to put them in! By Satoshi Wednesday was International Peace Day. We celebrated the day by discussing what peace meant to us. Here are some of our ideas. Then we talked about whether or not we thought the world was a peaceful place. The children had very varied opinions which was interesting and great to see as I got a good understanding of their sense of the world. We practised some guided meditation which we have been doing for at least once a week for the last month or so. The children loved it! They felt very relaxed after and some even said it made them feel happy. It was encouraging to see how seriously they took it. We finished off with writing one wish we had for the world. Check them out in the video below. You can also write your wish for the world in the comments! After uncertainty in the morning whether or not the annual Sports Day would go ahead (thank you, rain), the skies managed to clear in the nick of time. Just for us. The children gave a very loud, thankful cheer when they heard the news that the day would go on ahead as planned. Excitedly, we all climbed onto the coach and made our way to Clementi. As we arrived, we welcomed the cool breeze and began our day with shot-put and javelin. As the morning passed, the clouds began to break and the sun seeped through, getting brighter and brighter until it filled the sky. The races started and soon after, it wasn't just the runners who were sweating. We all were. By midday, our events had finished. We were all exhausted. Every single child showed team spirit, effort and enjoyment. Bring on Sports Day 2017! It's been 6 weeks since we first started our unit on Who We Are. We have studied Rights and Responsibilities in depth and this week was our last week! Where has the time gone? We were learning about rights and responsibilities. First we sort them into the rights that we know and don"t know in our table group. When we get know about rights we had a book competition where Ms Amin read a book called For Every Child. Then we have to guess which right is the book showing. By Satoshi We looked at rights, and we chose 8 rights that we have in the classroom. Then we use this the make our class charter. We also made matching responsibilities to the rights. Joe and I made the heading of class charter. By Marietta Today we connected rights and responsibilities. We categorised the words into Children's rights, our rights respecting responsibilities and the adults who our responsible for upholding those rights. I know my rights do you know your rights?
