This week we had a great time in our new Design Thinking space. We were challenged to create a tower for a tennis ball using only 50 straws, scissors, tape and of course, the tennis ball! We worked in groups and really had to think outside of the box. Look at the photos below to look at the processes we went through to create our final design. We had to be very open-minded as to how we would approach the task and working in teams meant lots of communication. The children really showed a variety of the learner attributes during the session and were very proud of their results! We also had our FUN RUN this week! There was a huge sense of community, excitement and team spirit in the air on Friday as everyone prepared themselves for the Fun Run challenge. We came in this morning with our team colours, bandanas and water bottles at the ready. After lunch, once our stomachs were fuelled we made our way down to the field, enthusiastic about running as many laps as we could for our House. After a 20 minute run, we were tired, hot and very sweaty but very proud and eager to know how far we had reached. Have a look at the photo below...can you figure out if it was before or after the run? we learned place value and learned expanded notation. We did math game where we used cards to move our counter. The games that we played were one having fun , two learning adding and subtracting ,three adding and subtracting digits that connect to place value. We learned tens and one for adding and subtracting. We all so learned how to solve problems. By Camille and Ronen This week we've been really getting into our unit of inquiry. We've been taking a close look at the notion of 'with rights come responsibilities'. We learnt that the United Nations created a set of rights specifically for children and we found out what some of these are.
We sorted through a set of 20+ material and non-material items that we thought we needed (and in some cases wanted) and through a process of elimination cut out a number of them till we were left with 8 that we can't live without. We established that these eight needs are also called rights. Some of us are trying to find out how many rights the UN have created for children. Do you know how many there are? Welcome to G3.1! I hope you are all well-rested after the summer holidays. We have had a great first week back. The children have enjoyed saying hello to new faces and catching up with familiar ones and I have enjoyed getting to know all eighteen of them over the last eight days.
This blog is a platform for us to share our learning and we will regularly communicate this in a variety of ways. The children will be active participants in this process and we are looking forward to showing you what we are up to in the classroom. Parents, this is your blog as much as it is ours so please comment and ask questions. Don't be shy! I hope to meet you all on our Meet The Teacher evening on August 24th and am looking forward to working with you this year. |
